Easily one of the top rappers in Philly’s rap history. This is the reason why it’s way too hard for me to answer the question… “Big Star, who’s your top 5 Philly rappers”, it’s just way too many hot ones. People often forget about rappers like Pretty Ugly that were so unique and talented it didn’t make any sense. If the measure of an artist is the level of their success, then that system or equation is flawed. P.U. aka “Papes” was clearly light years ahead of the majority of the rappers in the industry. I would have even put him in the class with the top 5 industry rappers at the time. It just wasn’t in God’s plan for him to become a global superstar, but he was in my book. We were truly blessed to enjoy the little bit that we did regarding rare songs and freestyles. P.U. had so much to give to the world, I wish he would have gotten all that his talent could have brought. Besides music, he’s my bro, and one of the coolest dudes that I had ever met through the camera. The funny thing about him is that he is just as much of a myth now as he was back in the early 2000’s. Many people heard his songs on Whoo Kid mixtapes, never saw his actual face (until 2RawForTheStreets appearances), and the bulk of hip hop heads may have even thought he was this mythical figure from New York. But, Pretty Ugly was from Philadelphia and he played the shadows and individuals like myself had direct access to one of the best artists that Philly has ever known. This video session features exclusive rhymes from Pretty Ugly and another Philly rap legend and alumni RJ Payne (formerly Reign Man), and also features one of the ONLY IN DEPTH INTERVIEWS ONLINE exclusively brought to you by Big Star & 2RawForTheStreets.
